Fall Weather Tune-UP

Jacksonville, Florida is known for its beautiful fall weather. This weather can include some cooler days. However, this is Florida. Florida is known for being mostly warm, all year long, at least during the daytime. However, at night, the temperatures do drop a bit. They even drop enough that most residents will be turning off their AC’s and turning on their furnaces. This means that this is the ideal time of the year to being preparing your AC unit and furnaces for their fall weather prep. Where should you begin?

Why not begin with the easy steps? What are these steps? They can include changing the furnace filters, if you are heating by force heat. If this filter is clogged, the heat cannot properly enter your home. This means you are wasting money, and you are wasting energy. You also may continue to stay cold. Most furnaces will just simply need a new filter. These are inexpensive and be purchased at most hardware stores. However, some filters can be washed and reused.

Another easy step is to check your thermostat and see if it takes batteries. If it does, this is a good time to replace those batteries to ensure that the thermostat will continue working all season long.

The next steps will require a bit more maintenance knowledge. This is the reason why many people will hire an expert to do them. They include the cleaning of the furnace blower, motor and filter system. Experts will tell you that dirt is the main reason that a furnace won’t run and dirt can easily clog many of the little crevices within a furnace. This dirt can come from simple every day dust that even the cleanest homes will have.

While one is cleaning or having the blower, motor and filter system cleaned, the belts should also be inspected. Are they tight? Are they showing any signs of wear from age? If they look good, they should be cleaned. If they need replaced, this is the perfect time to do that. After these important steps are taken, the oil filter should be replaced. This should be done yearly to keep the furnace operating smoothly and to keep the filter from being clogged, which could cause the oil to back up into places that it shouldn’t.

Finally, the overall furnace system should be expected. This will include the regulators, the controls, and the overall structure of the furnace. If all systems look good, then you are ready for those cool Florida nights.
